What is "Wireless"?

With wireless Internet, your data is transmitted through the air just like a television signal. This eliminates the need for a phone line and modem.

What are the advantages of wireless?

Internet download speeds are no longer limited by phone line transfer rates. Internet access occurs at speeds of five times to twenty times as fast as a 56K modem, and communication between wireless users can be as fast as a wired network. In addition, client computers connect instantaneously at startup and the dialing delay when initially accessing the Internet is eliminated.

Because the wireless network uses the unlicensed 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz ISM frequency bands, there is no telephone cost associated with the physical connection. No fees to the phone company results in lower costs for us and lower prices for our customers.

What equipment is involved?

KASINET access points have antennas attached to wireless routers which pass data between wireless clients and the Internet portal.

KASINET's current wireless access points:

Lindsborg water tower
Lindsborg south COOP grain elevator
Lindsborg Animal Hospital tower
Hilton elevator
McPherson Maple Street elevator
Marquette COOP grain elevator
Bridgeport COOP elevator
Windom COOP elevator
Elyria COOP elevator
and a central base station at our corporate headquarters (5.5 miles due south of Lindsborg at Johnstown).

KASINET supplies each customer with an antenna and a wireless network card. Several types of antenna are used, depending on location. Line-of-sight to one of our access points is required.

In a nutshell, "If you can see it, you can get it!"

What is the initial cost?

An equipment deposit is required, but basic installation services are free, with a two year contract.

What are the recurring fees?

$40 per month for standard two port service. This may actually save you money over dial-up internet, if you currently are paying for a second phone line for computer use only. $50 premium service includes enhancements such as a static IP address, 4 port firewall with NAT, and priority bandwidth queuing

And if I run into problems?

Just call Rich Voigt. He's local, he's available, and he owns the company, so he's got a stake in keeping his customers happy.
