EDUCATION

Children

Bethany Church offers Sunday School for children from babies to High Schoolers. Currently, the children's/youth Sunday School is in session from September to May generally, with a wonderful kick-off Rally Day in September.
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES, Sunday mornings at 9 AM, for children ages 3 years and older, are available in the Christian Life Center adjacent to the main church building. The curriculum varies from year-to-year, but it usually is ordered from any one of several Lutheran supply houses.
SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL is offered with a varied curriculum and meeting time each summer. Currently, summer sessions are scheduled for June 15 thru August at 10:00 a.m. Several special activities are in store for those youngsters and youth who come!
Vacation Bible School, June 2-6, 9:30 - 11:30 AM. Call the Church office to register

In addition to regular classroom sessions, there are special activities such as movies, crafts, and singing.  At Christmas the children prepare and present a special program, and on occasion, a musical is presented.

We provide a "well-stocked" NURSERY supervised by caring parents and youth for babies and toddlers during the Sunday School hours, as well as the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Bethany Church has two exciting after-school programs each Wednesday after the children's choirs.
GOOD NEWS BEARERS is for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders and is an at-home Bible reading program which is enhanced by an opportunity for fun and fellowship as we act out the Bible stories that are read at home. The Bible stories are chosen for the reading level of the children, so they are more meaningful.
GOOD NEWS EXPLORERS is the other Wednesday after-school program, which is offered for 4th and 5th graders. This class is geared for the older children and they study
Both GOOD NEWS classes meet every Wednesday after school.

Weekday Church School(released time) meets Wednesday mornings during the school year for grades three through six, sponsored by TACOL (The Associated Churches of Lindsborg).

Vacation Bible School, held in early June provides another opportunity for Bethany and Messiah children to learn and play together.

During the 5th grade year, children are prepared for Communion.

We encourage participation in our Synod camping program at
Camp Tomah Shinga near Junction City, Kansas.

Youth

We are very excited about our Junior / Senior youth groups at Bethany Lutheran Church.  Youth are encouraged to attend both the Sunday Morning class and the MiLYF activities. (MiLYF is a joint venture of Bethany and Messiah Lutheran Churches)  The Junior High group for youth in grades 7-8 and Senior High group for grades 9-12 meet once or twice a month.  For more information call the church office at (785) 227-2167.
Weekly confirmation classes are held for youth in grades 6, 7 and 8 during the school year. Confirmands participate in the acolyte program.
Senior High youth are encouraged to attend the ELCA National Youth Gathering held once every three years.

Adults

Our goal is to have quality Christian education for both children and adults in Bethany Lutheran Church.
We currently offer 4 adult classes, which all meet at 9:00a.m. each Sunday morning, year-round:
The KITCHEN CLASS, which studies current pressing theological or general topics and also has book reviews from time to time;
The EYE OPENERS CLASS is the newest of the adult classes. This class features many guest speakers from a variety of occupations, and they also discuss topics in which parents raising children would be interested;
The ANNA CARLSON BIBLE CLASS has the longest history of adult classes here at Bethany Church, dating back to September, 1903. It was begun by Anna Carlson, who was a teacher at Bethany College, with the intent to have those attending experience an in-depth study of the Bible.
The BIBLE GLEANERS CLASS was formed by those interested in "gleaning" important Christian precepts from the scriptures, as does a combine as it harvests wheat and separates the chaff from the good grain.
The adult classes are open to any who wishes to come fellowship with other Christians and participate in meaningful Bible study  Forums and information on a variety of topics are provided from time to time.
CROSSWAYS BIBLE STUDY is offered two times a week, September through May.
Our church library (near the south wing exit) has Bible commentaries and reference books as well as biographies, fiction and various topics.
